Connecting to a printer on a network can be a hassle, especially if you have a laptop and you have to change networks a few times a day. Windows used to have Location Aware Printing, which made the process a bit smoother, but this feature has been axed with the release of Windows 10. Network Aware Printing brings that functionality back, along with some improvements. It automatically prompts you to choose a printer whenever you connect to a new network and it will remember your settings.

The software is free to try, without any noticeable restrictions. It doesn't need to be installed, so you can run it straight away. However, you may want to place its executable in a folder, because the application will need to store a few files in a sub-folder.

When launched, the application will automatically detect the network you are connected to and try to look for a printer. If it's the first time you connect to that network or if a printer is not found, the software will immediately prompt you to take one of several actions. You can set it to never ask for a default printer on the current network, select default printer manually, do nothing at that moment or whenever you connect to a network.

Managing printers with Network Aware Printing is quite easy. It can be done on a clean and simple interface, on which you can select a network and a corresponding printer, in separate drop-down menus, after which you can add the pair to a list right away. You can make several selections, with different pairs of networks and printers.

Network Aware Printing works on a "set and forget" basis, meaning that you have to select a network and a default printer only once. When you connect to the same networks in the future, the software will automatically set the available device as your default printer, according to your settings.

With Network Aware Printing working on your system, you will never have to bother with default printers again.

Pros

The application lets you set a default printer for each network you connect to. You have to configure it only once, after which it will select your default printer automatically, each time you connect to a known network.

Cons

There are no obvious drawbacks to address.
